Dreams of being a doctor form a top 3 student
Franklyn is an orphan and was one of our top 3 students from last academic year – he wants to become a Doctor.
We struggled to secure sponsorship for him and in February 2023 when we were there, Moses was doing everything he could to get him into Chania Boys secondary school.
Stolen identity nearly stopped Franklin’s chances at education
He finally secured all the funds just to find out that someone else had stolen Franklyn’s identify and taken his place in school – this is not uncommon in Kenya.
After a lot of negotiation, hard work, running around and involving the police and Education Ministry, Franklyn was given his place.
The boy who stole his identify was also from Kiandutu Slum so we managed to negotiate that he STAYED in the school too!
It costs around £500 per year to sponsor a secondary school place.
